Kyodo News reported on June 3rd that Fukushima city police recently confirmed a black bear attack on four people in Sasakino prefecture. The victims sustained injuries of varying degrees, but none were life-threatening.
According to security video footage, the black bear chased a man into the Fukushima steel plant grounds, then knocked him to the ground. The bear then proceeded into a nearby building, injuring another person. Not stopping there, the bear moved to a neighboring company and attacked a man in his 60s. The final victim was an elderly woman in her 80s, before the bear escaped into a residential area in Sasakino.

"The bear has not yet been captured. Local police have sealed off areas where it might move and are even considering shooting it," NHK reported.
On June 2nd, Japanese police also reported a fatal bear attack in Akita City, northern Japan. The bear involved in the incident was shot dead by authorities.
In recent times, Japan has repeatedly recorded numerous cases of bear attacks on humans. In 2025 alone, the number of bear-related incidents in Japan reached 230, resulting in 13 deaths.
