A Vietnamese music video featuring a duck has become the first to reach 1 billion views – this is exciting news. Fan pages are flooded with comments like:

"My baby contributes hundreds of views," "One view is worth half a bowl of porridge," "Each meal gets 20 or 30 views, adding up to 3 meals a day," "As long as I have children, the views will increase"...

Parents happily boast about their children being "view-boosting experts," the "little powerhouses" behind One Little Duck and similar videos like The Grasshopper, My Two Hands, Bong Bong Bang Bang, Baby Shark, Wheels on the Bus...

However, the fact that children rely on children's music videos on YouTube, and now TikTok, for their eating habits remains a controversial issue in society.

Children's music video that's "hot" worldwide.

Based on the fact that both are children's songs and are top choices for parents when feeding their children, the music video " One Little Duck " can be considered the " Baby Shark of Vietnam".

The original Baby Shark music video – from the Pinkfong channel – now has over 14.6 billion views, not including numerous derivative music videos, different dance versions, and versions in other languages, all of which have attracted hundreds of millions of views.

Released in 2016, the song Baby Shark reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2019, generating considerable media attention and discussion.

The Daily Beast notes that these types of children's music videos target a specific audience: diaper-wearing children. But an equally important group of "bystanders" are parents, who click on these videos for their children to watch while eating.

Therefore, these songs and videos may seem simple, but they need to appeal to both children and adults.

The common thread is that the songs have simple, easy-to-sing, and easy-to-remember melodies, talk about family and animals, have repetitive lyrics, and a bright, optimistic rhythm that makes people want to dance...

The lyrics of "One Little Duck" don't talk about family, but the music video from the Piggy channel vividly portrays a family scene of a mother duck and her ducklings.

Don't overdo it or become dependent.

The impact of these music videos is not only positive.

Websites about parenting young children consistently cite the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendation that children under 18 months old should absolutely not watch screens.

Children aged 18 to 24 months should only watch screens under the guidance and conversation of an adult.

Children over 2 years old should watch screens for less than one hour per day, under adult supervision, and the content must be interactive, educational , friendly, and non-violent.

For children aged 5 to 8, there are no specific time recommendations, but parents must ensure that screen time does not interfere with other important activities such as sleep, physical activity, and learning.

But in reality, many families have already exceeded these limits. They let their children watch screens from a very young age, and allow them to watch for excessive amounts of time each day.

The fault doesn't lie entirely with the children's music videos themselves, but rather with how adults use them to promote children's eating habits.

On the FirstCry Parenting website, Dr. Rashmi Prakash, a psychologist, wrote:   List some reasons why children shouldn't watch videos while eating.

These include: overeating leading to obesity; not recognizing fullness due to being distracted by videos; the brain sending incorrect signals to the body, resulting in poor processing of food's taste and color; creating unhealthy eating habits for children as they grow up; reduced metabolism, affecting digestion; indigestion; lack of family interaction during meals, etc.

A study by the University of London (UK) showed that every 15 minutes of screen time can result in 4 minutes less sleep.

Sleep is essential for brain development, especially during a child's early years.

Children's music videos, and more broadly the vast amount of online content for children, still contain necessary and appropriate content for children of all ages.

However, children need the companionship and interaction of adults while watching to understand what they are watching, making the video viewing experience richer, more engaging, and easier to absorb.
