As a reporter who regularly works in the field, I have had the opportunity to interact with many disadvantaged people, especially when doing the "Addresses in Need of Help" column in the Hai Duong newspaper. This serves as a bridge between the less fortunate and the charitable community.
In the 2010s, when social media wasn't as developed, many of my posts appealing for help for those in need didn't reach a wide audience, attracting few viewers and receiving little support. Because of this, I was hesitant to write this type of post at one point. I was afraid of giving people false hope that wouldn't yield any results.
But in recent years, thanks to social media, newspaper articles have been widely shared, receiving attention and support from many philanthropists. I vividly remember the case of Cao Xuan Phuc, a 10-year-old boy from Hung Dao commune (Chi Linh district), who lived with his great-grandmother in very difficult circumstances. After the article was published, his family received over 47 million VND in support. Phuc's family called to express their gratitude, which deeply moved me.
Previously, in a note about families with children suffering from cerebral palsy in Chi Linh, I mentioned the case of NMK, a 3-year-old child from Van Duc ward. Despite having cerebral palsy and meeting the criteria for being recognized as severely disabled, the child had not yet received social welfare benefits. A few months later, the child's mother called me to inform me that her child had officially been recognized and would receive monthly support. That call made me very happy.
I know that each article is not just a job, but also a way to share, connect, and sow hope. That's what makes me love and appreciate journalism even more.
