At the press conference, the reporter asked the Spokesperson to comment, confirm and provide information related to Cambodia's Funan Techo Canal.
Accordingly, in a recent meeting in Cambodia, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol affirmed that his country has not neglected to provide information about the Funan Techo Canal to Vietnam, both officially and unofficially.
Mr. Sun Chanthol also said that the project only needs 5m3 /s, equivalent to 0.053% of the river flow, and affirmed that the Funan Techo Canal even contributes to flood mitigation in Southern Vietnam.
Responding to the above question, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: "The information we have up to this point about the Funan Techo project is not enough to specifically assess the level of impact of this project."
Therefore, as stated on May 5, the spokesperson said that he hopes that Cambodia will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam and other countries in the Mekong River Commission, fully share information about the project and conduct a detailed assessment of the impacts of this project on water resources and the ecological environment of the Mekong sub-region, and at the same time, take common and long-term management measures to ensure the harmony of interests of riparian countries, and effectively and sustainably manage and use Mekong River water resources.
