Vietnam has 9 restaurants with one Michelin star

(Dan Tri) - On the evening of June 5, the announcement and award ceremony for restaurants and eateries selected by Michelin Guide this year was held in Da Nang.

A total of 181 establishments in the three cities of Hanoi , Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City were honored by the Michelin Guide in various categories.

In addition to the most prestigious Michelin star award, the guide also awards Michelin Guide Special Awards; Michelin Guide Selected (restaurants recommended by Michelin) and Bib Gourmand (restaurants with delicious, affordable food).

109 dining establishments, spread across three cities, were honored in the Michelin Selected category, with 14 new entries.

This year, the list of "good food, affordable prices" winners increased to 63 locations, including 9 new dining establishments, 5 in Hanoi and 4 in Da Nang . Ho Chi Minh City did not record any new restaurants on the list.

Notably, the 9 restaurants receiving one Michelin star this year include one restaurant that was awarded one star the first time it was selected and one restaurant that was upgraded from last year, which is Ciel restaurant and CoCo Dining restaurant. These are 2 restaurants with locations in Ho Chi Minh City.

Among them, CoCo Dining was upgraded to one star, after two consecutive years in the Michelin Selected category (including 2023 and 2024).

“This is the first time we have received this honor,” shared chef Vo Thanh Vuong of CoCo Dining.

Notably, the restaurants in Hanoi that were honored mainly focus on traditional cuisine and rustic decoration. Famous restaurants serving pho, eel vermicelli, and rice rolls in the capital continue to be on the list this year, such as Tien pho, Cham chicken pho, Chan Cam eel vermicelli (Hoan Kiem), Mrs. Xuan's rice rolls, Mrs. Hoanh's rice rolls...

“We are proud to see an increase in the number of Michelin-starred restaurants this year, along with the emergence of a new generation of talented chefs,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin Guides.

As one of the restaurants honored as Michelin Selected for the third consecutive year (a restaurant recommended by Michelin Guide), Ms. Pham Thi Bich Hanh, owner of two businesses in Hanoi including Quan an Ngon and Ngon Garden, expressed her pride.

Ms. Hanh commented that this is the result of the tireless efforts of a collective including chefs, restaurant staff, managers, logistics team and the company behind. Being honored three times in a row is an important milestone and a great motivation for the business to continue to improve and develop further.

“Defining the mission as an ambassador of Vietnamese cuisine has become a core element that we have pursued for many years. In the context of tourism closely linked to cuisine, being selected by Michelin is a great opportunity to promote Vietnamese cuisine and culture more deeply to international friends.

This is not only an honor for the restaurant but also a step forward in the journey of bringing Vietnamese cuisine to the world," Ngon Garden representative shared.

Michelin stars measure the level of excellence and uniqueness of a restaurant. "Stars" is the Michelin Guide's rating system, ranging from one star (very good) to three stars (top notch).

Michelin-starred restaurants are considered to be high-end culinary destinations where customers can experience excellent food prepared by talented chefs.

One star is given to a restaurant that "has good quality food, worth stopping to enjoy".

Two stars means "the restaurant has excellent food quality, worthy of a visit".

Three stars (the highest) is where "the food quality is excellent, worth planning a trip to enjoy in person."
