SEA Games full of pressure
Attending the 32nd SEA Games from May 5 to 17 in Cambodia, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation consists of 1,003 members (including 702 athletes) led by General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet.
The athletics team has the largest number of athletes with 54, followed by e-sports (44 athletes). The list of participating athletes for men's and women's football will be finalized one day before the start of the competition. These are also the two sports in which the participating teams will not stay in the athletes' village but in a hotel arranged by the host country's Organizing Committee.
According to the Director General of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet, regarding professional work, immediately after the end of the 31st SEA Games, based on the announcement of the host country of the 32nd SEA Games on the number of sports and competition content, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training organized a review, assessment, and continued to maintain the force of coaches, athletes, and training experts at the National Sports Training Centers and Bac Ninh University of Sports and Physical Training. From the beginning of 2023 to now, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training has sent 19 teams to train abroad, 48 teams to compete in international tournaments. Currently, Vietnamese athletes are ready to leave for the 32nd SEA Games. The work of calling for, receiving, and allocating sponsorship for the athlete delegations participating in the SEA Games is still being urgently implemented.
Sharing about the first time leading the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to the SEA Games in a foreign country, General Director Dang Ha Viet felt honored and proud of this task. However, with the largest number of members in the history of Vietnamese sports going abroad, the responsibility of the delegation leader will be quite heavy.
Head of the delegation Dang Ha Viet also said that this is a congress where Vietnamese sports must face many challenges because we had a resounding success in the 31st SEA Games, with many records broken, winning 205 gold medals, leading the Congress, leaving a beautiful impression in the hearts of international friends, and being highly appreciated by the people.
“The pressure comes from the fact that we are the leading country of the Games, but this time we will compete on the away field, so we will lose the home field advantage. Along with that, the host country has cut many strong sports and events; limited the registration for many sports. However, with the spirit of ASEAN's community responsibility, Vietnamese Sports will strive to compete for the best results, contributing to the overall success of the Games, contributing to strengthening the relationship of cooperation, exchange and friendship between ASEAN countries,” Mr. Dang Ha Viet affirmed.
Preparations for the Congress are being carried out methodically.
Regarding Doping work for SEA Games 32, Director of the Center Director of the Vietnam Doping and Sports Medicine Center Nguyen Van Phu said that in order to prepare for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to participate in SEA Games 32, in March, the Vietnam Doping and Sports Medicine Center coordinated with 4 National Sports Training Centers (NHTTQG) to organize training courses on anti-doping knowledge and sent staff to accompany the Centers to propagate and control anti-doping work for more than 500 athletes and coaches.
The content of the anti-doping propaganda is about the doping testing process and points to note; Declaration of residence, training and competition records of athletes. For national team and national youth team coaches, the propaganda content focuses on the regulations on doping testing, the doping testing process and points to note. Management and medical staff have been informed about the treatment exemption regulations and the process when submitting applications for treatment exemption for athletes. From the experience of the 31st SEA Games, doping testing will also be conducted thoroughly at this SEA Games.
According to the General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet, up to now, the issue of funding for the Vietnam Sports Delegation has always been of concern to the Party and State leaders and adjusted according to each task. For example, at the 28th SEA Games, the Vietnam Sports Delegation had 570 members; at the 29th SEA Games, the Delegation had 693 members; at the 30th SEA Games, the Delegation had 857 members and at the 32nd SEA Games, it was 1,003 members. Therefore, the funding will be adjusted and balanced according to the number. This is something that needs to be done before each Congress. At previous Congresses, in addition to the Delegation members who used the State budget, many Delegation members also used socialized funding sources, due to strong Federations and Associations that have the ability to pay, such as the time the E-Sports Association paid for the Esports team and the Breaking team. In addition, young athletes with potential but not yet able to compete for medals can also follow other socialized sources.
Head of the delegation Dang Ha Viet also said that the SEA Games is an arena for athletes to compete for medals, so we cannot waste the State budget. In the case of young athletes who need to learn and compete, it is completely possible to go with local or socialized funds. Before each Congress, the teams must review their forces, based on their performance and injury status to select the best athletes to represent Vietnamese Sports to compete at the Congress. Therefore, the initial list and the final list will be different.
Previously, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung chaired a meeting to review the preparations of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to participate in the 32nd SEA Games. The Minister hoped that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation would compete with the highest determination, for the flag, colors, and honor of the Fatherland as well as the position of our country's sports achieved at the 31st SEA Games. The Vietnamese Sports Delegation aims to be in the top 3 of the region, and in men's and women's football, they will strive to compete and successfully defend their championship titles.
According to the plan, on April 26, the U22 Vietnam football team will be the first team to leave for the 32nd SEA Games. The remaining teams will leave for Cambodia on the morning of May 3 with two departure points: Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) and Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City). The Organizing Committee of the 32nd SEA Games in the host country of Cambodia is ready for a successful event. The 32nd SEA Games will welcome 12,404 athletes, coaches and staff from 11 countries. It is expected that 3,500 members of the sports delegations will stay at the athletes' village; another 2,000 will stay at 4-star hotels near the stadium. At the 32nd SEA Games, athletes will compete in 608 events of 48 sports and sub-sports. Vietnamese sports are expected to participate in 31 sports with 446 events. Currently, Vietnamese athletes are ready to depart for the 32nd SEA Games. |
