Specifically, Vietnam ranked 38th, in the second group with a high peace index, with 1,721 points, equal to Romania's score and above some Asian countries such as South Korea (41), Laos (47), Indonesia (49). Meanwhile, Thailand (86), Cambodia (87), China (98), Philippines (105), India (115) ... fell into the third group with a low peace index; this is also the group with the US, at 128th position.

2025 marks the 18th year that the Global Peace Index (GPI) has ranked 163 independent countries and territories by their peacefulness, covering 99.7 percent of the world’s population. Produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the GPI is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness. This report presents the most comprehensive and data-driven analysis to date of trends in peace, the economic value of peace, and how to develop peaceful societies.

The GPI uses 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from reliable sources and measures peace across three areas: the level of social safety and security; the level of ongoing domestic and international conflict; and the level of militarization

The report found that there are now 56 conflicts ongoing, the most since the end of World War II, and fewer conflicts are being resolved, either militarily or through peace agreements.

Conflicts are also becoming more internationalized, with 92 countries engaged in a conflict outside their borders, the most since the GPI was launched in 2008, complicating negotiations to achieve lasting peace and prolonging conflicts.

This year's results show that the average level of global peace has decreased by 0.56 percent. This is the 12th decline in the level of peace in the past 16 years, with 65 countries improving and 97 countries declining in peace.
