Vietnam Airlines began testing in-flight internet connection services on August 5, opening up a "digital sky" right on the flight, bringing a modern and convenient experience to passengers.

“This is an important milestone in Vietnam Airlines' comprehensive digital transformation process, while affirming its pioneering role in applying advanced aviation technology in Vietnam as well as the region,” a Vietnam Airlines representative emphasized.

On international routes, Vietnam Airlines will introduce three data packages for passengers to choose from depending on their needs. The $5 texting package allows unlimited texting during the flight; the $10 package allows for one hour of web browsing; and the $20 package allows for unlimited web browsing during the entire journey. Passengers can access the wifi connection portal from their personal devices and easily choose the appropriate data package during the flight.

For domestic flights, the payment system is in the process of being completed. Vietnam Airlines will deploy service sales as soon as this system is standardized in the Vietnamese market.

In order to introduce and increase access to new technology, in the first phase, Vietnam Airlines will provide free unlimited web browsing throughout the flight for business class customers and give 15 minutes of free messaging on messaging applications such as Zalo, Viber, WhatsApp... for all passengers on both international and domestic flights.

From now until the end of December 2025, Vietnam Airlines will deploy this service on Airbus A350 aircraft that have been installed with satellite Internet connection systems. In the coming time, Vietnam Airlines will continue to expand Internet service provision on other aircraft types, and coordinate with partners to diversify payment methods and access packages to flexibly meet the usage needs of each customer group.

Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said that in the current era of connectivity, the deployment of in-flight internet services is considered to be of great significance to both passengers and the national airline. This service helps to enhance the customer experience, as well as create a competitive advantage for Vietnam Airlines, in the strategy of expanding the airline's presence across continents and expanding Vietnam's soft borders.

Mr. Tuan also emphasized that this is also a testament to the realization of Resolution 57 of the Politburo on promoting science, technology and innovation that Vietnam Airlines has been actively implementing over the past time.

The technology infrastructure of the in-flight Internet service is deployed in conjunction with partner VNPT - Vietnam's leading technology group, connecting to the US Viasat satellite, allowing passengers to use the Internet during the flight with stable and safe speed.

By cooperating with leading domestic and international technology enterprises, Vietnam Airlines continuously applies modern solutions, masters core technologies, and plays a leading role in the digital transformation of the aviation industry. Thereby, the airline gradually affirms its leading position and makes practical contributions to the goal of improving the country's competitiveness in the international arena./.
