Accordingly, from July 2nd, 2026, Vietnam Airlines will operate direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket using Airbus A321 aircraft with a frequency of 4 round-trip flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, increasing the total number of flights between the two countries to 67 flights per week.
The new route not only helps meet the growing demand for tourism and leisure between Vietnam and Thailand but also expands passenger connectivity through the Ho Chi Minh City hub to Vietnam Airlines' extensive network in Northeast Asia, Australia, and Europe.
Adding Phuket, one of Southeast Asia's leading resort destinations, to its international flight network further affirms Vietnam Airlines' strategy of expanding its presence in the Thai market, while effectively exploiting the growth potential of the ASEAN region.
In the field of tourism and destination promotion, Vietnam Airlines is implementing cooperation agreements with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Association of Thai Travel Agents, and Saigontourist Group to promote tourism connectivity between the two countries through expanding direct flights, developing new tourism products, and enhancing destination promotion.
The parties will coordinate the implementation of joint branded communication campaigns, organize surveys for travel businesses and the press, and enhance market information sharing to improve the effectiveness of two-way tourism promotion. These collaborations are expected to contribute to increasing the number of tourists between Vietnam and Thailand, expanding the market size, and promoting economic and cultural exchanges in the region.
In the field of aviation infrastructure and operations, Vietnam Airlines and the Airports of Thailand Corporation have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing passenger experience at key airports in Thailand. The two sides will strengthen connectivity for connecting passengers in Bangkok, share real-time flight status data, and implement joint promotional programs to boost travel demand between the two countries.

Mr. Le Hong Ha, General Director of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized: “The launch of the Ho Chi Minh City - Phuket route, along with cooperation agreements with Thai partners, further affirms Vietnam Airlines' long-term commitment to expanding its ecosystem in the Thai market. These collaborations not only strengthen air connectivity but also contribute to promoting tourism, trade, and investment exchanges between Vietnam and Thailand, while opening up new growth opportunities for Vietnam Airlines in Southeast Asia.”
Thailand is currently one of Vietnam Airlines' key markets in Southeast Asia. From 1991 to April 2026, the airline operated nearly 100,000 flights on routes connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang with Bangkok. These figures further affirm the important role of the Thai market in Vietnam Airlines' strategy of expanding its international flight network and strengthening regional connectivity.
The opening of the Ho Chi Minh City - Phuket route further affirms Vietnam Airlines' role in concretizing Resolution No. 59 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation. Recently, Vietnam Airlines announced the opening of a direct flight connecting Hanoi and Amsterdam from June 2026, increasing the frequency of Hanoi - Moscow to 4 flights/week from July 2026, and is expected to open a Ho Chi Minh City - Colombo route from October 2026. Through its synchronized international flight network development strategy, Vietnam Airlines continues to affirm its role as the national airline in promoting economic, trade, and tourism exchanges and enhancing Vietnam's connectivity position on the regional and global aviation map. |
