The talks on May 28th between General Secretary and President To Lam and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul focused on promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, including cooperation in security, economy , and trade, particularly linking the two economies through the "Three Connectivity" strategy, as well as cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.
During the visit, the General Secretary and President of Vietnam also met with the King and Queen of Thailand, the Speaker of the Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, and presided over the opening ceremony of the Thailand-Vietnam Business Forum.
The people of Thailand warmly welcomed General Secretary and President To Lam, his wife, and the high-level delegation to Thailand. We are delighted that the General Secretary and President of Vietnam and his delegation have taken this opportunity to visit Udon Thani province – home to one of the three Ho Chi Minh Memorial Sites in Thailand.
Udon Thani is also home to a large community of Thai people of Vietnamese descent. This historic visit reflects the mutual trust, respect, and close, friendly relationship between Thailand and Vietnam.
The long-standing relationship between Thailand and Vietnam has been further deepened and expanded over time. Currently, the two countries are Comprehensive Strategic Partners – the highest level of engagement they have ever achieved.
We have mutual trust and respect. High-level visits take place regularly, creating regular high-level consultations and dialogues, and promoting cooperation in political, economic, socio-cultural fields and people-to-people exchanges.
Economically, Thailand is currently the eighth largest foreign investor in Vietnam in terms of cumulative investment capital, and Thai businesses continue to view Vietnam as a strategic destination for expanding their operations in the region.
Against the backdrop of Vietnam's ongoing economic transformation, driven by new reforms and the refinement of its legal framework to enhance competitiveness and global integration, Thai businesses are well-positioned to both contribute to and benefit from this dynamic environment.
Thailand and Vietnam have become important partners. Bilateral trade has grown steadily, reaching over $22 billion last year, and both sides are committed to achieving a target of $25 billion in the near future.
As the Ambassador of Thailand, I am honored and proud to have contributed to this historic and memorable visit, a visit that demonstrates the long-standing, warm, and close friendship between the Governments and peoples of Thailand and Vietnam. This relationship will continue to flourish from heart to heart.
