
Vinh Long 's coconut production is estimated to reach over 1.3 million tons in 2025.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province, in 2025, the value of coconut processing in the province is estimated to reach approximately 4,000 billion VND, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2024, accounting for 7.5-8% of the total industrial production value of the province. Coconut export turnover in 2025 is estimated to reach approximately 500 million USD, an increase of 2.9% compared to 2024; in which, key exported coconut products are expected to increase by over 10% compared to the same period last year; the province's fresh coconut exports are estimated to exceed 35 million fruits.
According to Mr. Van Huu Hue, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province, the coconut production of Vinh Long in 2025 is estimated to reach over 1.3 million tons, equivalent to more than 1 billion coconuts (an increase of more than 243 tons compared to 2020); of which, 360 million are drinking coconuts, 733.6 million are industrial coconuts, and 3.2 million are waxy coconuts.
The province has 183 enterprises producing and processing coconut products, providing employment for over 9,000 workers, mainly in rural areas. Processed coconut products include: coconut oil, coconut water, coconut milk, coconut cream, dried shredded coconut, coconut candy, products from coconut flower nectar, coconut jelly, coconut-based cosmetics, coconut shell charcoal, coconut fiber and products made from coconut fiber, coconut coir, coconut handicrafts, etc.
Currently, about 60-65% of Vinh Long's coconut production is consumed through the province's processing industry, creating high - value products such as coconut water, coconut oil, coconut candy, and coconut meat. One of the outstanding products is coconut candy (Ben Tre coconut candy), which currently has over 100 production facilities in the province, covering the entire Vietnamese market as well as exporting; about 10-15% is exported in raw form; the rest is consumed fresh domestically.
For drinking coconuts, about 10-15% of the production is processed and exported, while the rest is consumed fresh nationwide. For waxy coconuts, 80% of the production is sold as raw material, mainly for domestic consumption… while the remaining 20% is processed and sold domestically and for export.
Vinh Long province currently has nearly 120,000 hectares of coconut plantations with approximately 22 million coconut trees, accounting for over 50% of the national total. Coconut is the province's main crop, providing a stable source of income and improving the lives of nearly 270,000 households. The province aims to expand its coconut plantation area to 132,000 hectares by 2030.
