In recent days, social media has been abuzz with a video capturing the emotional and proud moment of Hanoi Medical University's resident doctors choosing their specialization. In a solemn auditorium, amidst enthusiastic applause and the watchful eyes of their peers, each young doctor stepped onto the platform, selecting the professional path they would pursue for life. This video is not simply a ceremony of choosing a specialization, but a recognition of thousands of hours of diligent study, a proud nod from their teachers, and a silent commitment from these young people on their journey towards knowledge.
The residency program is the most prestigious training program in the Vietnamese medical education system. The journey to becoming a resident physician is a race for high scores, a test of character, perseverance, and ideals. Six years of university, plus three years of specialized training in a high-pressure hospital environment, require resident physicians to set aside personal pleasures in pursuit of the light of medical knowledge.
I was truly captivated by the short videos of resident doctors confidently proclaiming their specialty. Not only did I repeatedly watch the top 10 and top 20 videos, but the clips of young female doctors choosing forensic medicine, male doctors choosing hematology and blood transfusion, and the only male doctor in the past three years choosing human anatomy, all deeply moved me. I secretly wondered how that petite, young female doctor could be so courageous to pursue forensic medicine – a field of study that sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it…

My emotions blended with the general sentiment of the community, as each "viral" video garnered millions of likes and admiring comments. One student expressed gratitude, saying, "I've been inspired by this video." A parent was moved, saying, "My child watched it and said they want to be a doctor like you"; "Amazing, kids! This is truly the beauty of knowledge!"; "May the resident doctors' good fortune be passed on to my children." Many young people left comments like, "Even more captivating than a beauty pageant"; "Resident doctors are the elite of the nation because this competition is incredibly difficult; they are the best of the best"; "I watch it over and over again without getting bored, you guys are so inspiring. Thank you so much!" Some even jokingly suggested that "Match Day - Resident Doctor Registration Day" should be broadcast on VTV so we could see "the elite of the nation"...
The widespread popularity of the resident doctor's career selection video demonstrates society's deep admiration for knowledge. While social media is flooded with images of glamour, sometimes superficial and empty, this simple career selection video stands out as something truly fundamental, enduring, and grounded. It inspires and reinforces our belief that true knowledge is quietly being accumulated, nurtured, and disseminated.
The beauty of knowledge doesn't need fanfare to be appreciated because it always shines through its own inherent value!
