VN-Index giảm gần 19 điểm trong phiên đầu tháng 6, thanh khoản thấp

The VN-Index fell nearly 19 points in the first trading session of June, with low trading volume.

The stock market opened June on a negative note, with the VN-Index falling nearly 19 points, amid continued declining liquidity and strong net selling by foreign investors.

At the close of trading on June 1st, the VN-Index stood at 1,844.54 points, down 18.95 points, or 1.02%. The VN30-Index fell 7.35 points to 1,989.71 points. Although the number of rising stocks on the HoSE still slightly outnumbered falling stocks (165 gainers compared to 133 losers), the main index remained under significant pressure from large-cap stocks, especially those in the Vingroup conglomerate.

During the session, the VN-Index rose for about the first hour before selling pressure increased and took over. VIC was the stock with the most negative impact, deducting 10.33 points from the index, followed by VHM with 3.44 points. VRE and VPL also caused the VN-Index to lose 0.5 points and 0.49 points respectively.

In addition, GAS, BSR, MCH, MSB, TCB, and CTG also contributed to dragging the market down. Conversely, MWG,FPT , GEE, VCB, VND, MBB, and PGV were the stocks that positively supported the index.

Liquidity continued to be a notable point, with trading value on the HOSE reaching just over 15,000 billion VND, the lowest in recent months. In the morning session alone, the value of matched orders on this exchange was less than 6,000 billion VND. VHM led the market in trading value with over 700 billion VND, followed by VIX with over 656 billion VND andSHB with nearly 600 billion VND.

Foreign investors continued to be net sellers, buying over VND 1,025 billion but selling nearly VND 1,671 billion. This prolonged net selling pressure is considered one of the reasons why domestic capital flows have become more cautious. In May alone, foreign investors sold a net of nearly VND 19,400 billion; the cumulative net selling value from the beginning of the year to date is approximately VND 60,000 billion.

Despite the overall market weakness, capital continued to flow into mid- and small-cap stocks. Many stocks such as BKG, BFC, TSC, ST8, FIT, HQC, and TTF all hit their upper limit, indicating that speculative capital is still seeking opportunities in stocks with unique stories.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index surged 10.24 points to 305.18 points, equivalent to 3.47%; the HNX30-Index increased 0.27% to 523.58 points. However, liquidity remained low with a total trading value of less than 1,000 billion VND.

According to analysts, the fact that the VN-Index has repeatedly approached its historical peak but failed to break through has led investors to refrain from chasing the rally and shift to a wait-and-see mode. In addition, the net selling trend by foreign investors, the shift of global capital to markets benefiting from the wave of technology and artificial intelligence, and uncertainties related to interest rates and the global economy have also contributed to a more cautious market sentiment.

Another factor impacting the market is the upward trend in deposit interest rates, while total margin lending across the market reached a record high of approximately VND 405 trillion at the end of Q1 2026. This has led to a shift of funds to bank deposits, while also increasing risk if the market continues to correct.

According to Vietcombank Securities (VCBS), the VN-Index is currently testing momentum around the 1,850-1,870 point range. Meanwhile, ACB Securities (ACBS) believes that the 1,850 point mark acts as an important short-term support level. The market may continue to fluctuate and consolidate around this point before forming a clearer trend in the near future.
