On July 14, Dr. Tran Thanh Son, Deputy Director of the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science andEducation (ICISE), said that the President of the French Republic issued a decree to promote the Order of the Legion of Honor, Officer level (Officier - Fourth class) to the couple Professor Tran Thanh Van, President of the Association for the Promotion of Vietnamese Science in France, and Professor Le Kim Ngoc, President of the Association for the Protection of Vietnamese Children in France.
This is the highest medal of the French state, awarded on the occasion of the French National Day (July 14), to recognize their great and lasting contributions in the fields of science and humanitarian activities over the past half century.

Professor Tran Thanh Van, also known as Jean Tran Thanh Van, is a French-Vietnamese. In 1953, at the age of 16, he left his hometown of Quang Binh (now Quang Tri) to study in France.
He is a world-renowned theoretical physicist, founder of a series of prestigious international Physics conferences such as the Moriond meeting, the Blois meeting and especially the Vietnam meeting event series.
In 2000, he was awarded the Chevalier Order of the Legion of Honor.
In 2012, he was one of three Asians to receive the Tate Medal of the American Physical Society, one of the most prestigious awards in science.
Professor Le Kim Ngoc is from Vinh Long, studied at Marie Curie University (HCMC) before studying abroad and graduating with honors in Natural Sciences at Sorbonne University (France).
She was the first person in the world to introduce the concept of “Thin Cell Layer”, a breakthrough in plant biotechnology, widely cited in international scientific works.

In 2016, in Ho Chi Minh City, she was directly awarded the Legion of Honor, Knight class, by French President François Hollande.
Since 2008, Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife have returned to Vietnam to carry out the project of building ICISE in Quy Nhon (now Gia Lai province). The center was inaugurated on August 12, 2013, carrying the aspiration of becoming a place of exchange between global science, education and humanities.
Since its inception, ICISE has organized about 200 high-quality international scientific events and more than 45 thematic science schools, attracting about 16,500 scientists from more than 60 countries and territories.
In particular, with Professor Van's relationship, there are 18 Nobel Prize winning professors, many professors who won prestigious awards such as Fields, Kavli, Shaw, Dirac... who came to Quy Nhon to share knowledge with scientists at home and abroad.
In addition to ICISE, Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife also left many important contributions such as the Vietnam Rencontres Organization, the Vallet Scholarship Fund, supporting the construction and sponsorship of SOS Children's Villages, and promoting science and education for the young generation.
