Of the 6 matches taking place, the most anticipated match was the Light Weight match between veteran boxer Nguyen Van Hai, 7-time national champion, and Su Xiao Tao, a famous Chinese boxer who held 2 IBO Asia Pacific Championship belts and the WBO Asia Super Featherweight belt.

Van Hai is rated lower than his opponent.

In terms of experience, Su Xiao Tao is superior with 13 professional matches, including 11 wins (6 by knockout). Meanwhile, Van Hai's professional record is 4 wins (1 knockout) after 5 matches. The match took place in 8 rounds, each round lasting 3 minutes. Both fighters started cautiously and only launched probing attacks. Van Hai was more proactive in moving and launching straight punches. It was not until the end of the first round that the two fighters had some notable exchanges.

In the second round, Van Hai launched his signature heavy hooks. In response, Su Xiao Tao also showed his class with a smooth and effective combo of punches on his opponent. The Chinese boxer proactively moved closer but soon received consecutive heavy counter-attacks to the head from Van Hai. With the experience that helped him win 2 Asian championship belts, Su Xiao Tao continuously forced Van Hai to the ropes. However, the 34-year-old Vietnamese boxer excited the audience with lightning-fast counter-attacks that made his opponent stagger.

Nguyen Van Hai moved flexibly to avoid attacks from his opponent before launching precise punches. At the end of round 3, Van Hai unexpectedly received a very heavy punch to the head from Su Xiao Tao, putting the Vietnamese fighter at a disadvantage, making the match quite balanced and tactical.

Entering round 4, Su Xiao Tao continuously launched a series of attacks with impressive speed. Van Hai showed his ability to move and dodge extremely well to avoid most of the opponent's attacks. However, the Chinese fighter still showed superiority in this round thanks to his clever and experienced fighting style. In the following rounds, Su Xiao Tao maintained the initiative to put pressure. The Chinese fighter launched many attacks aimed at the flank, causing some damage to the Vietnamese fighter. With abundant physical strength, Van Hai moved very well to limit the opponent's attacks and took advantage of the opportunity to launch a variety of attacks to score points.

Van Hai's joy

Under the enthusiastic cheers of the home crowd, Nguyen Van Hai was in high spirits and had quality counterattacks in round 7 against the pressure of his opponent. In the final round, Van Hai fought with great effort and had a good position against the Chinese champion.

In the end, Nguyen Van Hai won by split decision when 2/3 of the judges scored the victory for the Vietnamese boxer. An unexpected result but completely deserved for Van Hai's effort and intelligence against the extremely classy boxer who once dominated Asia.

Besides Van Hai's victory, 26-year-old Vietnamese boxer Pham Huu Thuong also had a surprising performance against Zeng Yujie (China) in the Super Flyweight category. In the end, the referee scored a draw for both boxers. A very commendable match for Huu Thuong against a very strong boxer with a lot of professional experience from China.
