Building a sports channel for the community.
According to its license, VTV6 is a sports channel, tasked with disseminating information and promoting the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations in the field of physical education and sports; promoting the development of mass sports, school sports, and professional sports; inspiring and encouraging physical training and regular exercise; promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle, contributing to the protection, care, and improvement of people's health, and the comprehensive development of Vietnamese people.

VTV6 Journey
Since its launch in 2007, VTV6 has undergone several changes in its content direction. In its early stages, it was a television channel for teenagers with programs reflecting the lives, culture, and trends of young people.
Since 2015, VTV6 has broadcast numerous sports programs. The channel is frequently chosen to broadcast live major sporting events for which VTV holds the broadcasting rights, especially tournaments involving the Vietnamese national teams and sports delegations.
After 15 years of operation, VTV6 officially ceased broadcasting in 2022 as part of VTV's television channel restructuring plan.
After a nearly four-year hiatus, VTV6 returns, aiming to serve a large audience of sports fans nationwide.
Many believe that VTV6's return, coinciding with the upcoming 2026 World Cup, will offer fans more engaging sports programs, in-depth news reports, and noteworthy events.
Matches from the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be broadcast live on VTV3 and VTV6; some matches taking place at the same time will be moved to VTV2 and VTV7.
