They won the silver medal with a score just slightly lower than the gold medal.
Reportedly, Le Thi Nguyet Hang recently won a silver medal at the 26th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), held in Denmark from July 9 to 21.
Speaking of this silver medal, Nguyệt Hằng couldn't help but feel regret, because if she hadn't had to "face" a huge 5 kg fish, the score would have been different.
Although Hang performed excellently in all the other parts of the competition, in the practical part, when the organizers gave the tiny student a large fish weighing about 5 kg to dissect with the requirement that the internal organs not be broken, Hang did not complete this part well, and lost quite a few points.
At home, Hang often practiced gutting fish, but the largest fish she ever caught was 1 kg, so when she encountered a larger fish, she couldn't perform well in the competition. "Seeing the 1.9-meter-tall contestant from another country skillfully gutting fish made me envious. But being small, I had no choice," Hang shared.

With a score of 300, winning the 26th IBO Silver Medal was not a disappointment for Hang, because, according to her, she tried her best to achieve such a good result. "She is still very happy and shared her joy with the whole family right after receiving the award," said Ms. Dang Thanh Huyen, Hang's mother, happily.
Le Thi Nguyet Hang was also the highest-achieving student in the Vietnamese delegation at the 26th IBO in Denmark. Prior to that, in 2014, while still in 11th grade, Nguyet Hang also participated in the International Biology Olympiad and won a silver medal.
Nguyet Hang is also a student who has won many major awards, such as first prize in biology at the city level in 10th grade; outstanding student of the whole school, first prize in biology at the city level, second prize in biology at the national level, silver medal in the 25th International Biology Olympiad in Indonesia in 11th grade; outstanding student of the whole school, first prize in biology at the city level, and a silver medalist in the 26th International Biology Olympiad in 12th grade.

Learning should go hand in hand with relaxation.
Because she was such a high-achieving student, many people assumed Hang only knew how to study. But for Hang, studying always had to be accompanied by relaxation.

Not only is Hang an excellent student in biology, but she also excels in other subjects.
"I always dedicate time to other subjects, even more than biology, because for me, all subjects are interconnected...", Hang said.
With her strong foreign language skills, Hang always has an advantage when participating in international competitions. She scoured international websites to read and understand the latest updated knowledge. "Besides that, I received help from the teachers at Le Quy Don High School and the national team to consolidate my knowledge, build confidence, and feel secure when participating in international competitions," Hang shared.
Speaking about her future choices, Hang said she is still confused about her options. “I might choose biotechnology or biomedical science. For now, I will apply for a scholarship in a developed country to study,” Hang said about her future direction.
