But for tens of thousands of transport workers, even with Tet (Lunar New Year) approaching, they are still putting aside personal matters to work day and night on construction sites, with hurried meals and insufficient sleep. Many bridges and roads need their hands and minds to take shape soon, connecting people to joyful destinations.
The cover and table of contents of the Lunar New Year issue of Giao Thong Newspaper (Year of the Dragon) are themed "Overcoming the headwinds."
That is the spirit of working "through holidays and Tet," "overcoming the sun and rain," and "only moving forward, never backward" of the entire transportation sector. Thanks to unwavering determination and effort, in 2023, transportation infrastructure saw remarkable development with nearly 500km of expressways put into operation. This was also the year with the most completed and commenced expressway projects in over a decade.
Attending the year-end review ceremony of the transport sector in 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urged this spirit to spread to localities and transport construction sites. He acknowledged that the transport sector has made a significant contribution to the overall achievements of the country.
The achievement that the Prime Minister mentioned is that, despite the general difficulties of the global economy , Vietnam still achieved a GDP growth rate of 5.05%. Vietnam ranks among the countries with high growth rates in the world, and many reputable financial institutions and international organizations have assessed that the Vietnamese economy is a bright spot in the gloomy picture of the global economy.
Amidst a turbulent world , 2023 marked a historic year for Vietnam in the field of foreign relations. Besides visits from Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden, Vietnam also welcomed numerous heads of state from major countries, along with strong investment commitments…
2023 was also a year with many major cases that were strictly handled, such as: Van Thinh Phat and SCB Bank, the rescue flight, Viet A, FLC, Tan Hoang Minh, AIC… further affirming the Party's determination to prevent and combat corruption and negative practices, purify the investment and business environment, and further strengthen the people's trust in the Party's leadership role.
Overall, Vietnam has weathered the "headwinds" while facing numerous difficulties and challenges. This has led many international organizations to recognize Vietnam as a country that has achieved many outstanding accomplishments and is predicted to recover quickly in the near future.
