Following the general direction, Can Tho is gradually building a data-driven smart city, placing citizens and businesses at its center. The city aims for a synchronized, modern, sustainable, and highly adaptable development model. Initially, this has brought practical benefits, improving the quality of life for citizens, strengthening the governance capacity of the government, and supporting business development. However, this process still reveals some shortcomings, including: limitations in technological infrastructure; inadequacies in the deployment of shared digital platforms; challenges regarding information security and data protection; and pressure on finances and human resources.
Despite the many challenges ahead, Can Tho remains steadfast in its goal of making smart city development and sustainable development its future destination. The city has clearly outlined a long-term roadmap to 2040; in particular, the period from 2026-2027 will focus intensely on "digital city" development. Key tasks have been clearly defined: building the core foundation for a smart city; standardizing institutions, legal frameworks, and standards; and integrating and standardizing inter-sectoral data. The city will also promote the application of technology and AI (Analytical Assistant) ecosystems to thoroughly address urban bottlenecks. Simultaneously, the system of mechanisms, policies, and plans is being gradually perfected to create a solid and unified legal foundation.
With a well-structured roadmap, a spirit of innovation, the determination of the entire political system, and the support of the business community and the people, Can Tho is steadily progressing on its journey to building a smart city. A modern governance system, an ecological and smart city, will not only improve the quality of life but also affirm its position as the "locomotive" leading the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region.
