Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned: "There are many challenges, from the dangers of the disease itself, security instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo, difficulties in contact tracing, food insecurity, even fake news and a lack of trust among the population..."
According to the plan, Mr. Ghebreyesus will travel to Bunia, the capital of Ituri province and the epicenter of the outbreak, to assess the situation.
The WHO is working with partners to accelerate the testing of vaccines and potential treatments to combat the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported more than 1,200 confirmed and suspected cases of Ebola, with around 250 deaths. Neighboring Uganda has also reported nearly a dozen cases and one death.
Ugandan authorities tightened controls at their border with the Democratic Republic of Congo on May 28, including temperature checks, travel history checks, and entry restrictions, in an effort to curb the spread of Ebola.
