The World Cup cost Real Madrid millions of euros.

The significantly smaller number of players participating in the 2026 World Cup compared to their major rivals means Real Madrid faces the risk of losing millions of euros in revenue from FIFA.

Real Madrid has no players called up to the Spanish national team for the 2026 World Cup.

In the ranking of the number of players participating in the World Cup by club, Real Madrid ranks 14th with 10 representatives. "Los Blancos'" achievement is far behind top teams like Man City (19 players) or Bayern Munich (18). Even Barcelona is superior with 15 players, while Atletico Madrid boasts 12.

Having many players participate in the World Cup not only brings prestige to the clubs but also generates significant revenue. FIFA has increased the fund supporting clubs in releasing players to 300 million euros, a 70% increase compared to the previous World Cup.

According to AS , each player called up to their national team for the World Cup earns their club approximately 10,000 euros per day during the tournament. This means Manchester City could potentially earn 190,000 euros per day with 19 players participating. If the English team's players progress far in the tournament, the total revenue could exceed 6 million euros by the end of the World Cup.

Barcelona is also expected to earn a significant amount of money thanks to the 15 representatives participating in the biggest football event on the planet. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid and especially Real Madrid will suffer significant losses compared to their competitors.

With 10 players participating, Real Madrid is expected to receive around 100,000 euros per day. If the stars of the Spanish royal club progress far in the tournament with their national teams, the total amount the club earns could reach approximately 3 million euros. However, this figure is only half of the revenue that Manchester City or Bayern Munich are likely to earn.

After a turbulent season, Real Madrid continues to lag behind its major rivals, not only in terms of professional achievements but also in the race for revenue from the 2026 World Cup.
