Attending were representatives of the Provincial Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs and many local people.
Martyr Tran Van Thong was born in 1936 in a poor peasant family with a patriotic tradition in the revolutionary village of Bich Thuong, Gia Van commune, Gia Vien district (now Bich Thuong village, Gia Vien commune). The martyr was the eldest son and the only son in a family of three siblings. His wife and only son had also passed away.
In September 1965, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, comrade Tran Van Thong, despite being a priority subject, enthusiastically wrote a volunteer application to join the army. Saying goodbye to his parents, wife, children and relatives, he officially became a soldier of the Vietnam People's Army and after a period of training, he was assigned to Company 18, Battalion 9, Regiment 101, Division 1. He and the Division 1 team participated in combat operations in the Central Highlands provinces and after the Tet Offensive in 1968, his unit continuously moved across the battlefields of the Southeast, Southwest and neighboring Cambodia. Together with the unit, he participated in hundreds of large and small battles with feats of arms associated with places such as: Soc Con Trang, Dong Pan, Loc Ninh, Suoi Da, Cau Khoi, Nui Dai, O Ta Soc, Nui Dat, Nui Ket, Ba Soai, Ta Keo, Cam Pot, Cong Pong Spu, Kirirom, Sot Trut...
In a battle with the unit attacking the US base in Ba Chiem area, Tay Ninh province, he fought steadfastly and heroically sacrificed himself on August 5, 1969.
With many outstanding achievements in training and combat, he was admitted to the Vietnam Workers' Party, promoted to the rank of Sergeant, held the position of Squad Leader, and was awarded the Second Class Glorious Soldier Medal, Third Class Feat of Arms Medal and many certificates of merit by the State and the Army. His body was buried and cared for by the Party Committee, Government and People of Tay Ninh province at Chau Thanh Martyrs' Cemetery.
Recently, in response to the wishes of the martyrs' families, the Provincial Association for Supporting Martyrs' Families has coordinated with the Department of Internal Affairs of Tay Ninh Province, Ninh Binh Province and the Political Department of Military Region 7 to support the correction of incorrect information on the tombstones and complete the procedures to bring the martyrs' remains back for burial at Gia Hoa Martyrs' Cemetery.
In particular, the Provincial Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs contacted Ong Bao Pharmacy 369 (Trung Son Ward, Ninh Binh Province) to sponsor a 0-dong bus and directly accompanied the martyrs' relatives to Chau Thanh Martyrs' Cemetery (Tay Ninh) to support the procedures for exhuming and moving the remains back to their homeland. This is a meaningful and humane act, demonstrating the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day.
At the ceremony, representatives of the Provincial Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs, the Party Committee, the Gia Vien Commune government and a large number of people offered incense in memory and expressed deep gratitude for the great contributions and sacrifices of martyr Tran Van Thong.
