According to the military news website Avia Pro , during demining operations in territory controlled by the Ukrainian army, Russia discovered a stronghold that posed a threat to the security of Russian forces. To counter this target, the Russian army decided to use the UR-77 mine-clearing system.

The UR-77 system uses data received from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to accurately determine the coordinates of the target. The UR-77's firepower destroyed a fortified Ukrainian position without inflicting any losses on the Russian army.

According to military experts, the deployment of the UR-77 has proven effective in combating anti-tank mines that can threaten the lives of soldiers. In addition, the use of drones helps detect enemy targets without endangering the health of intelligence officers.

The Russian army has deployed UR-77 mine-clearing systems to attack Ukrainian defensive lines on various fronts, particularly in the eastern Donbass region.

Produced since 1977 during the Soviet era, the UR-77 is one of the most powerful mine-clearing systems in the Russian army's arsenal. Operating on a simple principle, when fired, a rocket is launched, pulling a cable containing explosives. Upon impact, the explosives create a powerful blast with a shock wave, clearing an area of nearly 600 square meters.

Thanks to its superior features and power, the UR-77 has been nicknamed "The Flame-Breathing Dragon" by observers. The powerful destructive force of the UR-77 system is believed to help the Russian army accelerate its offensive while ensuring the safety of mechanized infantry assaults.

Mounted on the chassis of the 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery, the UR-77 is equipped with a YaMZ-238N engine with 300 horsepower, allowing it to travel at a maximum speed of 60 km/h over a range of up to 500 km. This mine-clearing vehicle is operated by a crew of 2-4 people.

However, according to some experts, the UR-77 still has some weaknesses, particularly its effective range of just over 90m. In addition, the reload time between shots is at least 30 minutes, preventing it from becoming a primary offensive weapon for the Russian army.

The British Ministry of Defence stated that Ukraine's effective use of anti-tank mines helped halt the relentless Russian attacks on the Donbass front.

The British Ministry of Defence assessed that Ukraine used the tactic of laying mines in the area above and behind advancing Russian units, putting Russian forces in a dilemma and causing chaos as Russian vehicles attempted to retreat. Once trapped in the minefield, Russian armored vehicles would be stuck and find it very difficult to maneuver in intense combat.
