Recently, Star News updated a video of the scene outside the male idol's funeral venue.

In the video, many white bouquets of flowers appeared at the funeral. Outside the door, security guards were on duty. Notably, there was also a portrait with a bright smile of the male idol that made many people feel sorry.

Previously, Korean media reported that Moonbin's farewell ceremony would be held privately.

The news of Moonbin's death at the age of 25 was confirmed by Yonhap News on the night of April 19 (local time). He was found dead by his manager at his home in Gangnam, Seoul at around 8:10 p.m. the same day.

According to initial information from the police, Moonbin made the extreme choice to end his life. However, the exact cause has not been announced.

"It is sad and regrettable to have to end one's own life"

Moonbin is loved by many audiences for his scandal-free lifestyle, optimistic image and bright smile. According to Namu, some close friends from school said Moonbin is a gentle, introverted person.

Before leaving this world at the age of 25, Moonbin did not show any signs of mental instability. On his personal page, the male idol still updated pictures of his work and personal life. In these pictures, he was smiling and had a positive attitude.

Moonbin's last post on his personal page

One day before his death, Moonbin shared a photo of all the Astro members with the message: "My everything, my all".

According to Mydaily, in recent months, Moonbin has shown no signs of wanting to commit suicide. Only in a livestream after a fan concert in Bangkok, Thailand, did Moonbin confess that he was very tired.

He said he felt sorry to his fans and apologized for revealing a moment of lack of concentration while performing on stage.

"I wasn't feeling well, but I'm fine now. To be honest, it was a bit difficult for me, I worked hard to not be discovered, but during the last event I couldn't hide it, I'm sorry. This is the career I chose. I promise to recover quickly and make my fans happy," Moonbin confided.

Singer Moonbin was born in 1998 and is 25 years old.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan Korea in September 2022, Moonbin expressed optimism when he said: “I want to give another chance to those who have ended their lives. In reality, we don’t know when and where something will happen, but we don’t always have to think about death while we are alive.

Just thinking about what to eat today and what to wear tomorrow is not enough for one day. It is sad and regrettable to have to end one's own life."

Exposing the brutality of the Korean entertainment industry

After Moonbin's sudden death, the New York Times recalled a series of Kpop stars who passed away such as Jong Hyun (SHINee) in 2017, Minwoo of 100% group (2018), Sulli of f(x) group and Goo Hara in 2019.

In his suicide note, Jong Hyun revealed that all he wanted to hear was the words "You did a great job."

The American newspaper called Moonbin's passing one of many cases of celebrities in their 20s suddenly passing away. Although not all cases are suicides, most are extreme choices.

"Their loss has prompted a nationwide question about whether the idol industry, one of South Korea's most popular cultural exports, is headed in the wrong direction," the New York Times wrote.

Meanwhile, The Guardian criticized the harsh trainee system of Kpop. The British newspaper said that idols often join the company at a very young age, some as young as 13-14 years old.

They are strictly controlled, buried in the practice room all day with singing and dancing. Those things make the idols' psychology unstable.

Even the Korean newspaper Korea Daily JoongAng had to admit that the brutality and cruelty of Kpop has been exposed after a series of deaths of stars.

The newspaper said that idols have to endure terrible pressure from the outside at the same time, while having to hide and fight for their true selves inside.

Close friends Sulli and Goo Hara both chose death in an extreme way

According to culture critic Kim Heon-sik, the workload that K-pop idols have to take on today is much more intense and stressful than before.

"Nowadays, idols have to satisfy the entertainment needs of fans not only in Korea but all over the world . Thanks to the development of social media, fans can even chat with idols online at any time. Therefore, idols have almost no time to rest," said Kim Heon-sik.

Kang Daniel – former member of WANNA ONE once revealed that during their time with the group, they started their schedule at 4-5am and ended at 2-3am the next morning. They only had about 1 hour to sleep each day.

“Idols always have to show a smiling, happy face to please the audience. This causes their emotions to be suppressed to the point of being stuck,” cultural commentator Kim Seong Soo shared on Korea Daily JoongAng.

Along with the pressure to become famous among thousands of groups, with the constant elimination nature, the physical strength of idols is also exhausted with a dense practice schedule.

"Being held to strict standards and being criticized by the online community but unable to respond is part of what makes stars stuck and driven to a dead end," commented The Guardian.
