The Provincial People's Committee has just issued Decision 1697/UBND-NLN1 on strengthening the implementation of tasks and solutions to combat illegal, unreported, and unreported (IUU) fishing in the province.

The inspection team from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development inspected fishing vessels in the sea area of ​​Cam Pha City.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested heads of departments, agencies, units, and localities to focus on leading, directing, and decisively implementing all directives from the Central and local authorities based on their assigned tasks. This includes focusing on completely resolving the issue of fishing vessels lacking three essential elements (no registration, no fishing license, and no inspection certificate) in the area according to regulations; ensuring that 100% of local fishing vessels complete the issuance of fishing licenses, registration, inspection, vessel marking, installation of VMS equipment, issuance of food safety certificates, and full updating of fishing vessel data into the national fisheries database by July 2024.

From now until August 2024, provincial and local authorities will conduct a rigorous campaign to investigate, verify, and strictly handle violations related to IUU fishing. This includes completely resolving 100% of serious violations such as disconnecting VMS systems, dismantling and transporting VMS equipment, and illegal fishing in foreign waters from the beginning of 2023 to the present.

On a monthly basis, the units compile reports on the results of the assigned tasks and submit them to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
