Following the 3-3 draw between Barcelona and Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifying round on the morning of November 6th, Yamal stated that he had read a lot of unfavorable information about himself over the past week.
"People talk a lot about me being injured and upset, but those are all lies. I'm always happy and focused on my work, back in training, competing, and enjoying football. I just need to keep doing my job well," Yamal shared.
Last week, Spanish media reported that Yamal had been diagnosed with pubalgia, also known as chronic inflammation of the pubic area. Medical experts warned coach Hansi Flick that he must manage Yamal carefully if he doesn't want the young player's career to be prematurely ruined.
Despite being only 18 years old, Yamal had to shoulder an enormous workload. According to FIFPRO, he played 130 professional matches, approximately 9,800 minutes, almost double that of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, or Cesc Fabregas at the same age.
In the match against Club Brugge on the morning of November 6th, Yamal was one of Barcelona's few bright spots, contributing one goal. After breaking up with his girlfriend Nicki Nicole last weekend, Yamal has scored two goals in his last two matches.
The recent draw leaves Barcelona in 11th place in the Champions League standings with 7 points. The Catalan club has now gone 9 consecutive matches without keeping a clean sheet.
