Building on the results of the first 50 days of the "150 Days and Nights to Complete 1,000 Classrooms" emulation campaign, this peak period continues to promote a spirit of high concentration and determination to overcome the heat and rain, bringing an additional 1,000 classrooms into use for the new school year.
According to data from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, from now until the end of 2026, approximately 70 projects with 1,251 newly built classrooms will be put into use, with a total investment of over 6,200 billion VND. Of these, 48 projects with 907 classrooms will be completed before the start of the 2026-2027 school year; the remaining 22 projects with 344 classrooms will be completed after September 5, 2026. Notably, in just 50 days since the project was launched, the city has added 233 classrooms – a number not only impressive in scale but also demonstrating an unprecedented speed in school construction investment.
Previously, a school construction project took 2-3 years to complete. This school year, with the involvement of the entire political system, many projects have been completed in just one year, ahead of schedule. Never before has such a spirit of "eating quickly, sleeping urgently," and working in "three shifts, four teams" been implemented simultaneously. Many spacious and modern schools have been inaugurated, bringing joy to the people – not only because of the additional learning space, but also because of the belief in an advanced, integrated educational environment where students can learn in smart classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and modern computer labs.
Following administrative boundary reorganization, Ho Chi Minh City has become the locality with the largest education system in the country, boasting approximately 2.6 million students and over 3,400 educational institutions ranging from preschool to high school. Each year, the city sees a mechanical increase of 50,000-60,000 students. To achieve the target of 300 classrooms per 10,000 school-aged children, as set forth in the City Party Committee's Resolution for the 2025-2030 term, more than 17,000 additional classrooms need to be put into use. This presents a dual challenge for the education sector: addressing the shortage of classrooms, reducing class sizes, and ensuring two-session schooling per day while improving the overall quality of education.
Faced with this challenge, the problem of providing school places is no longer solely the responsibility of the education sector, but has become a priority for the entire political system. A series of long-standing bottlenecks – lack of land, difficulties in allocating funds, inadequacies in construction procedures and processes – have been addressed through the joint efforts of city leaders and relevant departments. The completed schools are not only thanks to the hands and minds of engineers and workers on the construction sites, but also to the collective efforts of millions of hearts united in the goal of providing more school places for the city's children.
Currently, the draft Law on Special Urban Areas is being finalized for submission to competent authorities for consideration and approval, institutionalizing the orientations in Resolution 31-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Ho Chi Minh City until 2030, with a vision to 2045. Policies focusing on education, healthcare , culture, and social welfare are being promoted, affirming the city's pioneering role and aiming to become a leading livable city in Asia – where citizens receive comprehensive development and no one is left behind.
