"One journey, three destinations" - a breakthrough opportunity for Lam Dong tourism.

After the merger, Lam Dong became the largest province in the country by area, and also boasts two leading tourist centers: Da Lat and Mui Ne. With its diverse ecosystem ranging from highlands and mountains to sea and islands, the new Lam Dong promises to form a world-class tourism "golden triangle".

Unlocking inter-regional potential

Last weekend, Mr. Nguyen Quang Lam's family (from Ho Chi Minh City) went to Da Lat for a vacation. He said: "Every year, my family travels to this highland region to enjoy the cool air."

Da Lat has recently become more vibrant, having merged with two neighboring provinces to form the larger Lam Dong province, which has great tourism potential. With improved transportation, my family will book tours to explore everything from the forests to the sea, as well as learn about the diverse culture of this region.”

Lam Dong is fortunate to possess a diverse range of unique landscapes and values: from plateaus, mountains, forests, seas, islands, plains to volcanoes, caves, waterfalls, along with a rich indigenous culture and heritage sites of international significance.

Da Lat (formerly) alone welcomed over 6 million visitors annually, is an ASEAN clean tourism city, a UNESCO creative city in the field of music, and a leading flower festival destination in Asia. Western Lam Dong is a pristine area, closely associated with the cultural space of the M'nong, Ma, and Ede highlands...

This area brings together the UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark, the D'ray Sap waterfall complex, Ea Sno Lake, the Nam Nung and Ta Dung ecological zones, along with dozens of unique intangible cultural heritage sites. It is a "treasure trove" of ecotourism, geotourism, community tourism, and experiential tourism characteristic of the highlands.

Furthermore, in the southeastern coastal region of the province, with its 192 km of coastline stretching as a "holiday paradise" and "resort capital," the Mui Ne National Tourist Area is famous for its "blue sea, white sand, and golden sunshine," and the Phu Quy Special Economic Zone... All of these elements combine to create unique tourism products that few other provinces possess.

To maximize the potential of Lam Dong province, experts recommend that the province establish a "New Development Vision" positioning itself as a new national-level tourism growth hub. The province should focus on developing tourism product groups that align with new market trends, such as: health and wellness tourism, healing tourism, experiential tourism, and green tourism.

Architect Tran Duc Loc, Vice President of the Lam Dong Provincial Planning and Architecture Association, once told the press: "Previously, each province had its own strategy and direction. Now, coming together as 'one family,' it's not just about redrawing the map, but about 'redrawing the mindset' for development in a vast geographical area formed by the merger of the three former provinces."

The new geography of Lam Dong stretches from the 1,600-meter plateau down to Phu Quy Island, from the Ta Dung primeval forest to the "paradise" of Mui Ne. Place names, climate, population, products... nothing is the same. This means we have a new entity with a unique structure: a "miniature Vietnam" within the expanded Central Highlands.

1 journey, 3 destinations

Following the merger of the three provinces, in July alone, Lam Dong province welcomed 2 million visitors, an increase of 6.4%, bringing the cumulative total for the first seven months of 2025 to nearly 14.2 million visitors (an increase of 18.1%), with international visitors showing an impressive increase of 49.1%.

The Provincial People's Committee has set a target for 2025 to attract over 18.6 million registered tourists. With a combination of beach tourism, highland tourism, and ecotourism, Lam Dong will become a comprehensive tourist destination with strong competitiveness not only in the domestic market but also internationally.

There's more good news for the tourism industry, as the Government has just issued Resolution No. 229/NQ-CP on visa exemption under the tourism development stimulus program for citizens of 12 countries from August 15, 2025 to August 14, 2028.

This new policy opens up many opportunities for Lam Dong province in particular and Vietnam in general to attract diverse international tourist markets, contributing to the development of different tourist segments.

Accordingly, visa exemptions will be granted to citizens of 12 countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and Switzerland... With this policy, Lam Dong possesses all the elements to become a unique tourism growth hub, capable of competing internationally, if it reorganizes its products, infrastructure, communication, and most importantly, builds a common tourism brand.

“With its diverse ecosystem, the province needs to quickly develop integrated tourism tours with a ‘one journey, three destinations’ concept, from the sea to the forest, from waterfalls to flowers, and especially a journey exploring the 141 km long border with its forests, waterfalls, and streams. Not only should we connect within the province, but we need to expand inter-regional and international tours, effectively utilizing existing flight routes,” Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi emphasized at a meeting with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

With the theme "Lam Dong - Convergence of Excellence, Connection of Emotions," the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize the "Lam Dong Province Tourism Destination Experience Month 2025" program, peaking in September 2025.

"

From identifying potential and advantages, it is necessary to find the right path to
Building and developing a tourism brand with 3 main pillars: Lam Dong's thousands of trees.
Flowers, the blue sea of Lam Dong, the vast forests of Lam Dong. This is a long-term strategy aimed at maximizing...
Utilize the advantages of the climate, resources, and indigenous culture of the merged region.

Comrade Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, emphasized this point during a working session with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Accordingly, the province will organize a series of cultural, sports, and tourism activities to promote the image and brand of the destination; to position and elevate the Lam Dong tourism brand to domestic and international friends.

From there, it will promote linkages, cooperation, stimulate demand, and develop new tourism products associated with preserving and promoting local cultural identity. With many attractive activities along with promotional programs to stimulate demand, Lam Dong tourism promises to make a strong breakthrough in the last months of the year, befitting its status as one of the leading pillars contributing to the socio-economic development of the province.
