The rankings are based on data analysis of many factors such as crime, health care quality, and natural disaster risk. The safety score is given on a scale of 0 to 100, with the lowest-scoring cities being the safest.

The survey ranked Tokyo, Japan and Toronto, Canada as the next safest cities for tourists. Japan and Australia each have two cities in the top 10. The remaining destinations include: Sydney, Australia, Zurich, Switzerland, Copenhagen, Denmark, Seoul, South Korea, Osaka, Japan, Melbourne, Australia, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
From bottom to top, Caracas, Venezuela, ranked first with a total score of 100. The study found that the city had the highest level of health security risk, reflecting the low quality of its health care services and infrastructure. Caracas' crime rate earned it the lowest travel safety rating from the US State Department, with a "do not travel" advisory for its citizens.
Karachi, Pakistan, ranked second from the bottom. The US State Department noted that the destination has "terrorism and violence" and many extremist elements, leading to attacks on civilian targets, the military, and local police. The US also advised its citizens to consider when planning to travel there.
Myanmar's Yangon ranked third in the list of the world's most unsafe cities for tourists, followed by Nigeria's Lagos, Manila in the Philippines and Dhaka in Bangladesh.
