1. Lemon has nutritional and antioxidant value

The pink lemon is a popular variety of lemon grown in Vietnam. The pink lemon tree produces very fragrant, beautiful and juicy fruit. The pink lemon season only lasts 1-2 months in the fall, starting to ripen (from August), when the pink lemon flesh is pink but the skin is still green. When the pink lemon is ripe enough, the skin gradually turns yellow and then red.

Cherry lemons belong to the lemon family, and have the same chemical and nutritional groups as regular lemons. However, the difference from regular lemons is that cherry lemons have an attractive, fragrant pink-pink interior, thin skin, and contain a lot of essential oils.

Limes are a good source of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system, reduces inflammation, and promotes collagen production in the skin. They also contain fiber, which aids digestion, and provide lycopene, a compound that gives the flesh its pink color and has antioxidant properties.

In fact, the pink color of the inside of a lemon is due to its high concentration of lycopene. Lycopene is a natural antioxidant that gives many fruits and vegetables their red/pink color. Lycopene is also the compound that gives tomatoes their red color and grapefruit their pink color.

2. Lemon combined with honey helps detoxify and boost immunity

Normally, both Vietnamese lemons and pink lemons can be soaked in honey and have the same effect. However, Vietnamese lemons are often squeezed for juice or mixed with salt to make a refreshing drink or a throat lozenge. When soaked in honey, regular lemons will need more time for the lemons to absorb the honey.

The skin of the cherry lemon is thinner, less sour and has a mild, aromatic flavor that is easy to eat. When soaked in honey, the skin is easier to eat than regular lemons. The soaking time is also faster.

According to MSc. Hoang Khanh Toan, a traditional medicine expert, lemons are rich in vitamin C and flavonoid antioxidants, 20 times more than regular fruits and vegetables, so they have the function of detoxifying, protecting blood vessels, and strengthening the immune system.

Modern medical research shows that honey contains a mixture of sugars and nutritional ingredients including minerals and vitamins that are good for health such as: vitamins B2, B3, B6, B9, C, phosphorus, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium...

Honey contains antioxidants, antibacterials, anti-inflammatory properties and many health benefits, including detoxifying the body.

3. How to make honey-soaked lemon

- Choose slightly old lemons with shiny skin, pink flesh, fresh, ripe yellow and thin skin. For honey, choose pure honey produced yourself or buy honey products at reputable establishments.

- Wash the lemon thoroughly with water, then soak the lemon in a little cooled boiled water mixed with salt for 30 minutes. Remove the lemon, let it dry and slice it into thin, circular pieces.

- Clean and dry the glass jar. Pour a little honey to the bottom of the jar, then arrange the lemon slices in the jar and pour in the honey. When the lemons are soaked in honey, you can put them in the refrigerator to store for later use.

Lemons soaked this way are easy to use. You can directly suck on a few slices of lemon and a little juice to help disinfect the throat, cure coughs, increase resistance, or make delicious honey lemon tea.

Note: Because lemon is acidic, people with stomach problems should consult a specialist before drinking; People with stomach pain should not eat lemon or drink lemon juice on an empty stomach because it can erode the stomach lining, making the pain worse. The best time to drink lemon juice is about 30 minutes after a full meal; People with weak stomachs can add 1-2 slices of fresh ginger.
