This year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Professor Odon Vallet (Sorbonne University, Paris) and Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife (Chairman of the Vietnam Meeting in France) were unable to travel from France to Vietnam to personally award scholarships to outstanding Vietnamese students as in previous years. Professor Odon Vallet and Professor Tran Thanh Van sent a video of their speech to share with the students.
In his speech, Professor Tran Thanh Van recalled President Ho Chi Minh's letter to students on the first day of school in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (September 15, 1945): "Whether the Vietnamese nation will become beautiful and prosperous, and whether the Vietnamese people will reach the pinnacle of glory to stand shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the world, depends largely on the learning efforts of you children."
Professor Tran Thanh Van emphasized that today's students are the future of the nation, and the burden of building the country rests on their shoulders. Through this, Professor Tran Thanh Van stated that he and Professor Odon Vallet always hope that Vietnamese students will overcome all difficulties to study and contribute to building the country.
To nurture the talents of outstanding young students in Vietnam, the Vietnam Meeting Science Organization and Professor Odon Vallet established the Vallet – Vietnam Meeting Scholarship Fund in 2001. Each year, the scholarship committee selects and awards scholarships to exemplary students from across the country.
