The competition to sign De Bruyne promises to become increasingly fierce. |
The Athletic revealed that four MLS teams – Inter Miami, Chicago Fire, New York City, and DC United – are expressing interest and have opened preliminary talks to sign De Bruyne this summer.
Among them, Inter Miami has the priority to sign the Belgian midfielder first according to league regulations, but other MLS teams can still negotiate to persuade the player.
De Bruyne will end his 10-year stint with Manchester City at the end of the current season, after the club decided not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of June. This decision opens up opportunities for teams in MLS and Saudi Arabia.
The Times believes that if given the choice between the Middle East and the US, De Bruyne and his family would prioritize the US – a place they frequently vacationed to in the past. MLS also has ambitions to attract more top world stars.
The only sticking point for teams interested in signing De Bruyne is the uncertainty surrounding the exact date of his departure from Manchester City. His contract expires immediately after the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which is June 30th.
Manchester City and De Bruyne are likely to sign a contract extension for a few more weeks, allowing him to finish the season.
