According to Dr. Liem, on May 11, the hospital admitted 4 children aged 5-9 (living in Vinh Trach Dong commune, Bac Lieu city) with nausea and dizziness. Immediately after, the doctors examined, diagnosed, and cleaned their stomachs. Thanks to timely emergency care, the children are now stable and are being actively monitored and treated.
Ms. LTT (grandmother of 3 of the 4 children mentioned above) said that the children's parents all work far away and sent them to her to raise. Every day, Ms. T. sells fish at the market to earn money to make ends meet. At noon on May 11, after school, the children went to where Ms. T. sells fish to play. While playing, the children ate instant noodles mixed with rat poison, used by a nearby vendor to trap rats.
Upon discovering the incident, the family immediately took the children to Vinh Trach Dong Commune Health Station for emergency care, then took them to Bac Lieu Provincial General Hospital for treatment.
According to Dr. Liem, rat poison contains extremely toxic active ingredients, and even ingesting a small amount can cause serious poisoning, even death, if not treated promptly. Children are very curious and easily confuse chemicals with food, so adults need to be especially careful in storing and using drugs at home or in the business to avoid unfortunate accidents.
