1. Quit smoking
Smoking makes PH worse by constricting blood vessels, increasing heart rate, and reducing blood oxygen. Quitting smoking can slow the progression of the disease and improve lung function.
2. Eat healthy
Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains to support heart and lung health. Limit salt, sugar, saturated fat, and trans fat.
3. Maintain a healthy weight
Maintaining a healthy weight reduces stress on the heart and improves cardiovascular function, which is essential in controlling pH.
4. Exercise regularly
Regular exercise can improve blood circulation, lung function, and fitness. Avoid straining, lifting heavy objects, and resting when necessary.
5. Avoid places with high altitudes
“High altitude reduces the oxygen levels in the air, which aggravates the symptoms of PH. Be careful or avoid going to high altitudes to control symptoms and prevent complications,” says Dr. Samir Garde.
