PVF-CAND saved V-League from a certain defeat

PVF-CAND Club 'bravely' agreed to be promoted to replace Quang Nam Club which left the tournament, which is considered a spectacular save, helping V-League 2025 - 2026 still have 14 teams.

VFF AND VPF BREATH A RELIEF

After the deadline for registering the list at 5 p.m. on August 1, Quang Nam Club did not have any official response, meaning that the 2017 champion quietly withdrew, giving up the V-League 2025-2026. This puts the V-League at risk of major disruption. According to the resolution of the VFF Executive Committee, the V-League spot will be given to only the first-class representative, with the priority being the runner-up of last season, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai Club, followed by PVF-CAND Club (ranked 3rd). If both first-class teams refuse, the V-League 2025-2026 will have only 13 teams. In the letter refusing to be promoted to VPF, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai Club shared that they want to develop sustainably, creating a solid foundation. In fact, before that, owner Pham Huong Son had refused a sponsor's offer to give Quang Nam Club a V-League spot, and this time it was the same.

But fortunately, at the "89th minute", PVF-CAND Club agreed to replace Quang Nam Club. It was a brave decision because they would certainly be at a disadvantage compared to the remaining V-League clubs in terms of physical and professional preparation and foreign players. Facing a promising stormy season, they still strongly accepted this "hot" V-League ticket. Thanks to that, V-League 2025-2026 still keeps the same match schedule, without having to redraw lots. PVF-CAND Club will replace Quang Nam Club's code, debuting in V-League with a home match against SLNA on August 15. VPF will have to grant a special exception to PVF-CAND as their stadium has a capacity of only 6,000 seats compared to the minimum requirement of 10,000 seats. It is expected that PVF-CAND will need time to install additional mobile seats in stand B, while they have experience setting up the VAR system last season.

N CHANGES BEFORE THE NEW SEASON

Before the opening of the 2025-2026 season, the V-League had a notable change when striker Nguyen Tien Linh burst into tears and said goodbye to Becamex TP.HCM Club. The 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball will say goodbye to the team that nurtured him to become Vietnam's top striker, to move to a southern club. It is known that Tien Linh has 1 year left on his contract and he will play on secondment. Thus, this 28-year-old striker will close the first half of his career with 82 goals for Becamex TP.HCM Club, including 71 goals in the V-League, 10 goals in the National Cup and 1 goal in the AFC Cup.

Vietnam national team midfielder Pham Ly Duc will also say goodbye to HAGL to join the Hanoi Police Club (CAHN). Moving to the capital, playing for an ambitious team, alongside many seniors in the Vietnam national team such as Quang Hai, Thanh Long, Nguyen Filip, Van Thanh, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh... is expected to help Ly Duc improve his playing skills. Previously, CAHN Club also recruited two potential overseas Vietnamese players, Brandon Ly and Adou Minh, promising to create a solid defense as a foundation for coach Mano Polking's open-minded attacking style.

V-League rookie Ninh Binh FC continues to impress when announcing the quality contract of Geovane Magno from Ha Tinh Club. The striker who has played for all 3 capital teams, The Cong Viettel , Hanoi Club and CAHN, is considered one of the top foreign players in Vietnam. Already qualified for naturalization, playing for Ninh Binh FC will open up opportunities for Geovane Magno to play for the Vietnam national team. Previously, Ninh Binh FC also "scored" when convincing 2 overseas Vietnamese talents, Tran Thanh Trung and Evan Abram, to return to the country to play. The Cong Viettel Club, in addition to announcing 4 new contracts at the same time, including goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, defender Dinh Viet Tu, midfielder Dinh Xuan Tien and welcoming Dang Van Tram back to his old home, is expected to soon announce 5 more foreign and overseas Vietnamese players, demonstrating its ambition to compete for the 2025-2026 V-League championship.

Coach Thach Bao Khanh of PVF-CAND Club said that next week, the PVF-CAND leadership will have an important meeting about the future of the team, providing information, and following the direction of building the team to suit the situation. Also on August 2, former U.23 Vietnam player Martin Lo announced his farewell to PVF-CAND Club, retiring at the age of 28.
