Mr. Khoa stated that, as of 7:30 PM on August 31st, of the five tourists who drowned, four had recovered, while one was receiving intensive care. Following the incident, the Special Administrative Region People's Committee dispatched officials to the scene to visit and offer support to the victims.
According to initial information, at approximately 5:30 PM on August 31st, in the beach area of Ward 7 - Duong Dong, a group of tourists were swimming when large waves caused five tourists to drown. Rescue forces and some tourists promptly rescued the victims, brought them ashore, and provided first aid.
During periods of bad weather, local authorities often send reminders to tourism businesses in the area to ensure the safety of tourists visiting the sea and islands on days with thunderstorms, strong winds, and large waves. In particular, tourists are advised not to swim in the sea during bad weather.
According to the advice of Phu Quoc residents, from April to the end of October, the western sea often experiences strong waves and winds, so tourists should be cautious when swimming at beaches in this area.
During the two-day National Day holiday on September 2nd, Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone welcomed over 44,000 visitors, including more than 9,500 international tourists.
