Mr. Khoa said that as of 7:30 p.m. on August 31, of the 5 tourists who drowned, 4 were in good health, and 1 was in intensive care. When the incident of the tourists drowning occurred, the People's Committee of the special zone sent officials to the scene to visit and encourage the drowned tourists.

According to initial information, at about 5:30 p.m. on August 31, at the beach area of ward 7 - Duong Dong, a group of tourists were swimming in the sea. Due to large waves, 5 tourists drowned. Rescue forces and some tourists promptly rescued the victims, brought them to shore and performed first aid for the victims.

During bad weather, the local authorities often send written reminders to local tourism businesses to ensure the safety of tourists when visiting the sea and islands on days with thunderstorms, strong winds and big waves. In particular, tourists are advised not to swim in the sea during bad weather.

According to the advice of Phu Quoc people, from April to the end of October, the West Sea often has big waves and strong winds. Tourists should be careful when swimming at the beaches in this area.

During the 2-day September 2 holiday, Phu Quoc special economic zone welcomed more than 44,000 visitors, of which more than 9,500 were international visitors.
