According to Master, Doctor Nguyen Thu Trang, Department of Traditional Medicine, 108 Central Military Hospital, in addition to treatment as prescribed, people with low blood pressure should pay attention to adjusting their diet, especially increasing the 5 food groups below.

Caffeinated drinks

Coffee, green tea or black tea can cause a slight short-term increase in blood pressure due to its ability to stimulate the heart and constrict blood vessels. But doctors warn against overdoing caffeine because it can cause nervousness, anxiety and insomnia.

Salty food

Salt has the ability to retain water and increase blood volume, thereby helping to raise blood pressure. Some suggested foods include pickles, olives, cheese, salted nuts, broth, etc.

However, you should not eat too much salt because it can adversely affect the heart and kidneys.

Drink enough water every day

Dehydration is one of the common causes of low blood pressure. People with low blood pressure need to drink enough water, not only water but also coconut water, fruit juice or electrolyte water. You can always carry a water bottle with you to drink small sips throughout the day.

Iron rich foods

Iron is a component of hemoglobin, the protein that transports oxygen in the blood. Iron deficiency means anemia, leading to low blood pressure. People with low blood pressure should supplement iron-rich foods such as red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, and fortified cereals. Combining foods rich in vitamin C such as oranges, tangerines, and bell peppers will help absorb iron better.

Foods rich in vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the production of red blood cells. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia, leading to low blood pressure. Foods that should be used to provide enough Vitamin B2 for the body include: lean meat, eggs, milk, and fortified cereals. Vegetarians can choose plant milk with added B12 or consult a doctor to take pills.

MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thu Trang noted: "People with low blood pressure should divide their meals into many small meals instead of eating too much at once. Eating too much can cause blood to rush to the digestive system, causing a temporary drop in blood pressure. Instead of 3 main meals, try 5-6 small meals a day to keep blood sugar and blood pressure stable."

Proper dietary supplementation can help improve low blood pressure, but it should be combined with a scientific lifestyle and medical advice to ensure long-term health safety.
