In the first five months of 2026, the area of ​​newly planted forests nationwide is estimated at 112,100 hectares; the volume of timber harvested from the beginning of the year to date is estimated at 8.7 million cubic meters.

According to the report on the socio-economic situation in May and the first five months of 2026, prepared by the Ministry of Finance for the regular Government press conference organized by the Government Office this afternoon (June 3), in the first five months of 2026, the whole country had 112.1 thousand hectares of newly planted forests.

However, compared to the same period in 2025 (estimated at 113.7 thousand hectares), the area of ​​newly planted forests in the first five months of 2026 decreased by 3.1%.

Previously, according to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment at a press conference on June 1st, in the past five months, the area of ​​newly planted forests nationwide reached over 100,000 hectares; timber production reached 8.7 million cubic meters (an increase of 3.8%).

Total export turnover of forestry products maintained a continuous upward trend month after month; estimated at 7.65 billion USD in the first 5 months of 2026 (an increase of 4.5%).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in 2026, amidst a backdrop of intertwined challenges, the forestry sector is clearly determined to maintain its growth momentum, build upon its achievements, and successfully implement the set objectives.

In particular, the Ministry's leaders noted key tasks such as: Continuing to promote propaganda and raise awareness throughout society about the immense value of forests; implementing comprehensively and effectively policies and laws on forestry, linking socio-economic development with environmental protection, disaster mitigation, and adaptation to climate change; developing plans for tree planting, afforestation, non-timber forest product development, and agroforestry in conjunction with green economic development planning and ecotourism.
