Earlier, on the afternoon of May 27th, six people in Sa Lắng village (Phú Xuân commune) caught about 0.3 kg of stink bugs from the wild and prepared and ate them.
After eating, all six people experienced symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, headache, and neck and shoulder pain, so their relatives took them to Quan Hoa General Hospital and Ngoc Lac General Hospital for emergency treatment. Initial examinations determined that all six people suffered from food poisoning after eating stink bugs.
By May 30th, the patients had been transferred from the aforementioned hospitals to Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital for continued treatment.
Patients and their families reported that, in addition to stink bugs, the meal included stir-fried pork, stream fish soup with cherry tomatoes, pumpkin soup (homegrown), and white wine.
Following the incident, the People's Committee of Phu Xuan commune issued a widespread warning to local residents, advising them not to hunt, process, or consume insects such as stink bugs, strange worms, or animals of unknown origin as food.
