The defendants heard the verdict.
With no job and a drug addiction, Truong quickly became a criminal. To deceive the authorities and have many drug addicts buy drugs, Truong recruited other people to help him sell the drugs. His accomplices included Nguyen Thanh Tinh (born in 1988, residing in Long Thanh ward), Huynh Duc Huy (born in 2001, residing in Nha Bang ward), Le Vu Luan (born in 1999) and Le Chi Tam (born in 1997), all residing in Tinh Bien ward (Tinh Bien town).
At about 1:10 p.m. on June 29, 2024, Tan Chau Town Police patrolled, controlled, and prevented crime in the area. When arriving at Long Thanh D hamlet, Long Thanh ward, they discovered Sang driving a bicycle with suspicious signs, so they conducted an administrative check. Thereby, they discovered a plastic bottle in the bicycle basket, inside of which were 4 nylon bags containing white crystals, suspected to be drugs. Sang confessed that it was methamphetamine that Tinh hired him to sell to addicts. After hearing that Sang was arrested, Tinh went to Tan Chau Town Police to surrender and confessed that he bought the drugs from Truong.
At about 1:30 p.m. on June 30, 2024, in Vinh Loi 2 Hamlet, Chau Phong Commune, Tan Chau Town Police discovered Phong driving a motorbike carrying Le Van Luom (born in 1992, residing in Nhon Hung Ward, Tinh Bien Town) on the road with suspicious signs, so they ordered the vehicle to stop for inspection. Upon inspection, a black nylon bag hanging from the luggage rack containing white crystals was discovered. Phong confessed that the drugs were given by Truong and delivered to Tinh, while Luom was not involved.
After the initial investigation, the authorities detained Truong on an emergency basis, searched his residence, and seized three electronic scales and other evidence related to drug use. The police initiated a criminal case, prosecuted the defendant, and transferred the case to the Provincial Police Investigation Agency under its authority.
Through investigation, it was determined that Truong was a drug addict. To have money to spend and drugs to use, from April to June 2024, Truong used the Zalo account "Tran Quoc Truong" to contact a Cambodian with a Zalo account named "Si Si" to buy crystal meth 5 times, each time 100g, priced at 30 million VND. In addition to the times he directly received the drugs, Truong also asked Tam, Luan, Phong and Huy to help him receive and sell the drugs to addicts, Truong promised to give him money to spend and drugs to use. On June 30, 2024, Phong was on his way to help Truong deliver a 64.8g package of drugs to Tinh when he was caught red-handed.
The investigation determined that from the beginning of May 2024 to June 26, 2024, Tinh had bought drugs from Truong 5 times to retail, sell directly or deliver to Sang to resell in Tan Chau town. On June 29, 2024, Tinh gave Sang 9.9 grams of crystal meth, and was arrested on the way to deliver it. The investigation agency determined that Truong earned about 45 million VND; Tinh earned about 50 million VND; Phong earned 500,000 VND; Sang earned about 1.3 million VND; Tam and Luan each earned 700,000 VND; Huy was given drugs by Truong to use.
Considering that the crimes committed by the defendants were of a particularly serious nature, in which defendant Truong, as the mastermind, provided drugs for the remaining defendants to sell to addicts for illegal profits. Therefore, the Provincial People's Court sentenced defendant Truong to 19 years in prison, Huy to 17 years in prison, Phong to 15 years in prison, Tinh to 11 years in prison, Sang to 9 years in prison, Luan and Tam to 7 years in prison each for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics". In addition, the defendants were ordered to hand over the illegal profits.
