At the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh thanked AFD and Mr. Remy Rioux personally, a person who always has special affection and care for promoting cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of environment, climate and water resources. Many programs and projects are being implemented very effectively, typically the project "Research on socio -economic impacts of climate change in Vietnam and climate change adaptation strategies" (GEMMES Vietnam), supporting the development of long-term solutions to adapt to climate change.
On this occasion, Mr. Remy Rioux informed Minister Dang Quoc Khanh about cooperation programs on policy, science , technology and finance. Mr. Remy Rioux also pledged to cooperate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to propose policies on environment, climate and water resources based on scientific basis.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh highly appreciated the role of AFD in supporting climate change response in the past 30 years since AFD officially operated in Vietnam. Based on the cooperation achievements of nearly three decades, the Minister proposed that through AFD, leading French scientists and research experts will be mobilized to support Vietnam in phase 2 of the GEMMES project, focusing on proposing solutions to adapt to climate change, equitable energy transition to ensure energy security and sustainable development.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh also asked AFD to support climate change adaptation projects in the Mekong Delta; support Vietnam in training human resources on carbon pricing, developing a domestic carbon market in Vietnam; and addressing plastic pollution.
Director General Remy Rioux said that AFD is ready to support Vietnam in implementing projects for common goals. In addition, AFD is committed to promoting financial investment for energy transition projects under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) after the JETP Resource Mobilization Plan was announced at COP28.
On the occasion of AFD's 30th anniversary of official operations in Vietnam in 2024, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh respectfully invited Director General Remy Rioux to visit and work with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to continue promoting cooperation activities.
