Also in Paris (France), on the evening of June 21 (local time), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha attended the ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Vietnam - France direct flight route of Vietnam Airlines; witnessed the agreements on tourism development cooperation between the two countries.
The Vietnam - France direct route was first operated by Vietnam Airlines in 2003 using wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft. The total number of passengers transported reached nearly 3.8 million, and the total amount of cargo transported reached more than 174,500 tons. The average annual growth rate of passengers and cargo before the COVID-19 pandemic was 5%/year and 10%/year, respectively.
After the COVID-19 pandemic was brought under control, the Vietnam - France route has received positive signals. In the first 5 months of 2023, the number of passengers transported by Vietnam Airlines reached 108,700 passengers and 5,500 tons of cargo, recovering almost equivalent to the same period in 2019.
