Ibrahim Adel (8th minute) and Mohamed Salah (14th and 84th minutes) scored the goals that secured the victory for Egypt.
With 3 points against Djibouti, Egypt now has 23 points, 5 points more than second-placed Burkina Faso, with only one matchday remaining in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the African region.
This is the fourth time in history that Egypt has qualified for the World Cup. In the tournament four years ago, Mohamed Salah and his teammates failed to qualify.
Egypt is the third African team (after Morocco and Tunisia) and the 19th overall to qualify for the North American tournament next summer.
As of the morning of October 9th, the 2026 World Cup has confirmed 19 participating teams, including the three co-hosts (USA, Canada, Mexico) and the teams from Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, New Zealand, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.
FIFA is expected to conduct the draw for the 2026 World Cup group stage in the United States on December 5th. At that time, approximately 42 out of 48 participating teams will have been determined.
