The 2026 Australian Open officially concluded with Carlos Alcaraz's convincing 3-1 victory over Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final on the evening of February 1st. Beyond its professional and historical significance, this title also earned the Spanish player a record-breaking prize money, marking a new milestone for the first Grand Slam of the year.

According to the organizers, this year's men's singles champion will receive AUD 4.15 million, equivalent to approximately €2.44 million. This is the highest prize money in the history of the Australian Open, an 18.5% increase compared to the previous season. This amount reflects the tournament's efforts to enhance its commercial value and acknowledges the growing appeal of top-level tennis.

For Alcaraz, this "historic check" is more than just a material reward. It comes as the 2003-born player started the season in the most perfect way, overcoming one of the greatest opponents in tennis history. The Melbourne championship further solidified Alcaraz's position among the ATP leaders, while also affirming himself as a central figure of the new generation.

In the women's singles, Elena Rybakina also received a similar prize money after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Equal prize money for men and women has been the standard at Grand Slam tournaments since 2001, and the Australian Open will continue this principle in the 2026 edition.

It wasn't just the champions who benefited from the significantly increased prize money. Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich received nearly 193,000 euros for reaching the third round. Meanwhile, Paula Badosa, despite being eliminated in the second round of the women's singles, still took home around 132,000 euros, a considerable sum for such a short journey.

The Australian Open's continuous increase in prize money demonstrates the increasingly fierce competition for value among Grand Slam tournaments. For top players like Alcaraz and Rybakina, this is a well-deserved reward for their peak performance.

As for world tennis, this is a clear signal: Melbourne is asserting its position not only through professional quality, but also through its growing financial strength.
