"I felt cramps from the tension when facing a legend like Djokovic. I have never experienced something like this in the past. He pushes his opponents to the limit. If someone plays against Djokovic and says he doesn't feel the tension, he is lying. This is a lesson for me. I felt bad, but I didn't consider recovering in the fourth set. I would have regretted it a lot if I couldn't continue playing," Alcaraz said about his injury.
Alcaraz lost 1-3 to Djokovic due to cramps in the third set.
Losing 1-3 (3-6, 7-5, 1-6, 1-6) to Djokovic, the 20-year-old tennis player expressed regret for losing the chance to win Roland Garros. Alcaraz expressed: "Nobody wants to lose. But I know how difficult it is to win a Grand Slam in general."
According to the plan, Alcaraz will rest for a few days and participate in the Queen's Club tournament (June 19-25) of ATP 500 to aim for Wimbledon 2023.
Speaking about Alcaraz's defeat, Novak Djokovic shared: "Obviously at this high level, what you want to avoid the most is cramps and physical problems at the end of a Grand Slam. So I feel sorry for Alcaraz. I hope he recovers and can come back very soon."
The 2023 Roland Garros final will take place between Novak Djokovic and Ruud on June 11.
In the second semi-final, Casper Ruud (seed number 4) defeated Alexander Zverev (seed number 22) with a score of 3-0 (6-3, 6-4, 6-0) to enter the final match to compete for the Roland Garros championship with Djokovic.
The Roland Garros final is scheduled to take place at 8pm tomorrow, June 11.
