This is an initiative led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to support athletes in pursuing a second career or transitioning to a new career by assisting them in becoming entrepreneurs.
Alibaba.com, a leading global e-commerce platform for businesses (B2B), has become the first global Olympic and Paralympic e-commerce partner to join the Athlete365 Business Accelerator program for the fourth time.
The Athlete365 Business Development Program is a business incubator designed to equip professional athletes with the necessary skills to establish and manage their own businesses.
According to new data from Alibaba.com, nearly two-thirds (approximately 63%) of retired athletes struggle to find new jobs after retirement. While 76% of retired athletes believe they possess the necessary skills for business, only slightly more than half (52%) are currently running their own businesses.
As the first partner to join the program, Alibaba.com will develop a multi-stage training program focusing on e-commerce and global trade, aiming to build participants' knowledge in key business areas such as using AI tools, global sourcing, and B2B exporting through online marketplaces.
Through this program, Alibaba.com aims to empower over 1,000 athletes and former athletes globally with training. Additionally, Alibaba.com will provide 50 promising candidates with Business Development packages worth $10,000, including combined training in logistics, operations, and sourcing, along with credit to help them unlock long-term sustainable growth opportunities.
