In recent days, the floodwaters from upstream combined with high tides and local rains have submerged many areas in the Dong Thap Muoi region of Tay Ninh province. People's houses and belongings were submerged in water, and roads turned into rivers. Dike breaks in some places submerged rice, crops, fruit trees, etc. In the midst of such hardship and loss, the spirit of solidarity and "mutual love" shined brighter than ever.
Unlike previous years, this year the flood came quickly and strongly, causing many sections of the dike to leak or even break. Faced with rising water levels, the weak dike lines became a line of defense to protect crops. These days, people in the Dong Thap Muoi region of the province, especially those in heavily affected areas, have been going to the fields together, day and night. They used everything they could, from sacks of soil, bamboo poles to planks, to promptly reinforce and repair the broken dike sections. The image of dozens of people drenched in the rain, hurriedly passing sandbags from hand to hand to protect the dike moved many people.
When the roads are flooded, the sampan becomes the main means of transportation, and also a “bridge” of human affection. People who own sampans are willing to use their sampans to transport their neighbors’ belongings, take children to school, or transport necessities to isolated households. Household items are placed high up, but affection is placed at the highest position. Quick meals, shared packages of noodles, words of encouragement, and sincere inquiries are precious spiritual medicine.
The solidarity spread even wider when the army and militia were mobilized to help people overcome the incident. They did not hesitate to get in the water to help people reinforce their houses and move their property and household items.
The flood season will pass, but losses are inevitable. Hundreds of hectares of fruit trees and rice have been flooded, putting many families at risk of losing everything. However, thanks to the cooperation and timely support from the government, and especially the strength of solidarity, the people of Dong Thap Muoi have more confidence and motivation to start over./.
