Initially, United's youth coaches and backroom staff were required to buy their own tickets if they wanted to watch the final. But ESPN said Amorim stepped in and paid the full cost after learning that the "Red Devils" staff had to pay out of their own pockets.
Sources in the UK also reported that the MU leadership prioritized financial support for the team's fans to travel to Spain to watch the final. 90% of the tickets were distributed directly to eligible fans in a random draw.
The match will take place on May 21 at San Mames, home of Athletic Bilbao. The two clubs MU and Tottenham have been allocated about 15,000 tickets each by the organizers.
In contrast to MU, Tottenham's board of directors decided to give free tickets to all full-time employees at the club.
According to the Daily Mail , the number of Tottenham fans is expected to far exceed MU's in Bilbao. About 15,000 Spurs fans came to Spain without tickets, compared to only about 2,000 MU fans.
Airlines have capitalised on the Europa League final by charging up to £2,000 a ticket for flights to Bilbao. Hotel prices in the city where the final is being held have also risen.
Requiring staff to pay for their own tickets is part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's cost-cutting regime, which has seen INEOS make hundreds of job cuts and scrap many employee benefits.
