India-China efforts to restore relations after more than 4 years of freeze

In a message to his counterpart Li Qiang, Prime Minister Modi expressed that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries will bring bilateral relations to a stage of healthy and stable development.

The leaders of India and China have exchanged congratulatory messages on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations (April 1, 1950-April 1, 2025), as the two sides seek to restore ties after more than four years of freeze due to military tensions in Eastern Ladakh.

In a message to his counterpart Li Qiang, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “India and China are two ancient civilizations that have played an important role in shaping the course of human history and are now shouldering the important task of promoting peace and development. The development of India-China relations is not only beneficial to the prosperity and stability of the world but also conducive to the realization of a multipolar world. The 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China will bring bilateral relations to a stage of healthy and stable development."

In a message to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian President Droupadi Murmu stressed: “India and China are two great neighbours, accounting for one-third of the world’s population. A stable, predictable, and friendly bilateral relationship will bring happiness to both countries and the world. Let us take this 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to jointly promote the healthy and stable development of India-China relations."

In response, Premier Li Qiang affirmed: “China is willing to work with India, taking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to continuously enhance strategic mutual trust; promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields; properly handle border issues; promote bilateral relations to develop along a healthy and stable trajectory, bringing more happiness to the people of the two countries."

In a message to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China becoming a partner with India is the "correct choice." He stressed that both sides should approach bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.

In addition, Mr. Xi Jinping said that China is willing to cooperate with India to enhance trust and jointly safeguard peace after sporadic clashes in disputed border areas. He also proposed cooperation on important international issues./.
