Attendees included: Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang; Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong; Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang Province Ho Van Mung; along with representatives from various departments, agencies, and Sun Group.
Four key projects serving APEC 2027 have a total investment of over VND 14,800 billion. Among them, the Urban Metro Line Project, Phase 1, with a length of approximately 17.7 km and a total investment of about VND 9,000 billion, will contribute to gradually forming a modern and convenient public transportation system, reducing traffic pressure and protecting the urban environment of Phu Quoc. The project is invested by Sun Group.
The Duong Dong 2 Reservoir investment project, with a capacity of approximately 7.5 million m3 and a water supply capacity of about 49,500 m3/day, has a total investment of approximately 2,950 billion VND, aiming to ensure water security and serve the sustainable socio -economic development of the special economic zone.
Two resettlement projects include: the Ham Ninh Resettlement Area Project, covering 103 hectares, creating over 2,000 resettlement plots and approximately 2,500 apartment units, with a total investment of about 1,200 billion VND; and the Cua Can Resettlement Area Project, covering approximately 98.2 hectares, creating over 3,600 resettlement plots, with a total investment of about 1,650 billion VND. These projects meet the needs for stable housing and livelihoods for the people, facilitate land clearance for key projects, contribute to the completion of social infrastructure, and ensure social security and sustainable urban development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Standing Committee member of the Provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, Nguyen Thanh Phong, said that investing in these projects not only aims to meet the requirements of organizing a particularly important diplomatic event of the country, but also provides an opportunity for Phu Quoc to continue to improve and upgrade the quality of its urban area, protect the landscape and environment; and build Phu Quoc into a green, modern, and civilized tourist city, worthy of its position as a regional and international tourism and resort center.
According to An Giang provincial leaders, with the close guidance of the Government and the Prime Minister, the support and direction of central ministries and agencies, and the determination and decisiveness of the locality, all 21 projects have now completed investment preparation procedures and commenced construction, with some projects exceeding the planned schedule.
To ensure that the Urban Metro Line projects, sections 1 and 3, which commenced today, are completed safely, with quality, and on schedule, the Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Minister of Finance, Nguyen Van Thang, requested the Party Committee, government, and people of An Giang province to continue assisting and supporting the land clearance and resettlement process, and to direct relevant agencies to support the investors and contractors during construction, focusing on completing the projects and works on schedule and ensuring the best quality.
Central ministries and agencies should strengthen inspection and supervision; proactively and continuously support, assist, and cooperate with the People's Committee of An Giang province in the process of implementing the project.
Sun Group Corporation, the investors, supervisory consultants, and contractors are demonstrating the highest sense of responsibility, strictly adhering to legal regulations on project investment management; quickly implementing construction while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency, striving to complete projects ahead of schedule and bring them into operation and use as soon as possible.

Following the Prime Minister's directive for 2025, the People's Committee of An Giang province issued Decision No. 1080/QD-UBND dated September 16, 2025, approving the overall plan for the province's activities to support the organization of APEC 2027.According to the plan, the province will implement 21 project categories, including:
There are 10 public investment projects and 11 projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) and non-budgetary investment methods. These projects are identified to ensure the synchronization of technical infrastructure, urban infrastructure, and social infrastructure, directly serving the organization of the APEC 2027 High-Level Week, while also contributing to the harmonious and sustainable development of Phu Quoc in the future.
